Q: "What's a portfolio?"
A: A portfolio at Mission High School is a collection of excellent work from all classes, along with reflections on that work and what it shows about your growth as a learner. It can be digital (on the computer) or hard-copy (on paper).
Q: "Who does portfolios at Mission?"
A: All students complete and present a portfolio at the end of each year. The expectations are slightly different each year, but the overall goal is the same: collect work to demonstrate your proficiency in academic standards and skills and your growth as a learner, reflect on that work and assemble the work with the reflections into a portfolio, and present that portfolio.
Q: "When do I present my portfolio... and to who?"
A: Each grade level will have a portfolio exhibition night in the Spring where the portfolios will be presented to members of the community, including any members of your family that you invite.
The dates for portfolio presentations this year are:
- All ELL/Newcomer Program Advisories: Wednesday, May 4th, 2016
- 12th grade Advisories: Thursday, March 24th, 2016
- 11th grade Advisories: Thursday, April 7th, 2016
- 10th grade Advisories: Thursday, April 21st, 2016
- 9th grade Advisories: Thursday, April 28th, 2016
Q: "How do I decide what to put in my portfolio?"
A: Each of your teachers will work with you to help you make the best choice for your portfolio entries. Your teachers will also give you prompts and direction on how to write reflections on each piece you will include in your portfolio. Your advisory teachers will help you assemble your entries into a completed portfolio.
Q: "How do I put my portfolio together?"
A: You will have time to visit the computer lab with your Advisory and begin putting together your portfolio. See the documents and videos in the center column of this page for step-by-step instructions on how to put together your digital portfolio.
